Grey Headed Wagtail.

Grey Headed Wagtail twitch at Thornton! Only one previous record of two Grey Headed Wagtails at Rutland in 2001, so is this bird a Leicestershire first?
Some shots of it stretching. Part of the upper chest band is just visible.

The head is reminiscent of Lesser Whitethroat.

Yellow Wagtails are elegant, but the contrast of the yellow and grey make this a stunner!!

Yellow Wagtail, thunbergi.

As promised some better images of the thunbergi race , Yellow Wagtail. It is still in the second horse field along the east bank. Also Garden Warbler in the first hedge.

Yellow Wagtail of the race thunbergi.

A Tree Pipit at Bagworth Heath was a nice surprise. Hopefully it will stay to breed in this suitable habitat.
Also in the same area a pair of Willow Tit were seen.
This evening a Yellow Wagtail of the Northern Fenno- Scandia race thunbergi was with the flock in the fields above Stoney Bank. It was 8pm and the bird was near the top of the ridge, so the photos are poor. Hopefully it will be there tomorrow and be more obliging.
Other migrants recently have been Swift, Sedge Warbler, Hobby, Common Tern and Cuckoo.
